This is what the beginning of a Sandhill Crane migration north looks like: a long vee of large birds in flight.
I have been searching for over two decades for where they land south of me for the night to start their journey, but they've eluded me so far.
This is only one of the many flights that pass overhead daily at this time of year on their way to their northern nesting grounds.
Most of the time they are so high that all I can see is a tiny series of specks, so I know there is an overnight resting spot somewhere to the south of me as these were relatively low compared to the usual passage.
I only ever know they are there as I can hear their distant cawings even from that height, making me look up and search the sky.
Enjoy!
