Behind The Lens

Location

I was traveling from Chattanooga, TN to Streator, IL. In Illinois, the most direct route to Streator is to get off the interstate onto state highways. I passed into Albion, IL and found a delightful town square. This store front stood out and said "shoot me!" So, I did!

Time

I was in Albion in late morning.

Lighting

Nothing special. It was a bright, sunny summer day.

Equipment

I shoot with an older mirrorless Fuji camera - the X-E1, which I love. I use a Fuji 18-135mm; a great all around lens

Inspiration

Out of all the storefronts on the main street of Albion, this was the only white front. The combination and contrast - white instead of brick - and the column facade fascinated me.

Editing

Obviously this has been converted to black and white from a color image. I also sharpened the image and added contrast to lend to the usual sharpness of a black and white photo.

In my camera bag

I carry my Fuji X-E1 with my main lens, an 18-135 mm all around zoom. I also carry a 12mm super wide manual lens and an old Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 manual lens which dates back to the mid-1960s. A polarizing filter is always handy.

Feedback

Can you see in black and white? I can since I started photography some 60 years ago at the age of 10 with a black and white darkroom. So, many images I shoot I have seen them in black and white as opposed to color.
