This ancient Boab Tree at Derby, Western Australia is traditionally of considerable spiritual and cultural importance to Aboriginal people of The Kimberley in NE Australia. Imbued with special mystical power, it was utilised by colonial police to imprison Aboriginal captives waiting transportation into Derby and onto Freemantle Gaol.
