Camped close to this beautiful Boab Tree at Timber Creek, NT, Australia. Boab trees in The Kimberley and Australian Top End are regarded by indigenous Australians as being imbued with mystical powers. They have magical spirit properties, some so special they are protected under Traditional Law. Those trespassing without permission or causing them harm may be subjected to retribution. This is Australia's only endemic species of Boab Tree, distributed in the island continents North West. They arrived as seed pods on ocean currents from Madagascar 90,000 years ago.

Camping close to the Boab it was just a matter of timing to capture it with the Milky Way as backdropLighting
I used a head torch to add highlights otherwise ambient lighting came from the camping groundEquipment
Tripod mounted Canon EOS 60D with Sigma 10-20mm lens on widest apertureInspiration
The Boab is very important in Aboriginal culture of the Kimberly region where it's distribution is largely limited.Editing

Giotto travel tripod, two Canon bodies a standard 60D and a 600D converted to infrared. As I'm travelling full time I only have a couple of lenses as space is at a premium.Feedback
Use fairly standard astrophotography settings to capture the Milky Way. Tripod. 15 to 25 seconds exposure on widest aperture. Use a wide angle lens.
