Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Los Angeles standing by my friend's backyard koi pond.

Time

It was daytime. I was mesmerized by the shape and color of the dragonfly as he lit on the surrounding plants. He didn't stay long. I had to shoot quickly. He fluttered his wings and left quickly.

Lighting

It was shot in natural daylight. The lighting was enhanced by the sun reflecting on the koi pond. I wanted to create a sense of quiet beauty and mystery. The shadows cast by the plants added to that mysterious quality.

Equipment

I used an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Inspiration

Sitting by the koi pond was so serene then a dragonfly landed on a plant above the pond. His coloring was stunning. I wanted to catch the moment before I knew he would fly away.

Editing

I used Photoshop on my Mac Book Pro laptop and Snapseed, an app on the iPhone to post-process my photo. Snapseed has an incredible amount of filters and options to enhance photos. The double exposure feature is one I frequently use.

In my camera bag

The only equipment I need and carry is my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I can edit the photo on my iPhone.

Feedback

If you are shooting insects you have to be very patient to capture the right moment before they are gone.
