Newly discovered wasps exhibit unique behavior. Also in Portugal.
The team from the Finnish University of Turku has been studying the diversity of parasitoids in tropical regions for twenty years. There are many species of parasitoid wasps, but these new discoveries are quite unique: Manipulating host animals in the way these insects do is rare in nature. They paralyze the spider and lay an egg on it. The spider does catch prey, but that is for the parasite and not for itself.
The animals have been discovered in various rainforests of the Amazon as well as tropical parts of the Andes Mountains. The Finnish researchers collaborated with Brazil's National Institute for Research of the Amazon. The researchers say that on every trip in the Amazon they discover new species that behave in a way that has never been seen before.

Thank you Joop, this spider was allready paralized, that is why it was easy to make this picture. She could not run away anymore😂
