Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the park strip in front of my house in Northern, UT.

Time

According to the EXIF info., it was taken at 6:33 p.m., and that sounds about right.

Lighting

Nothing special, other than I could have picked a better time of day, but managed to make it work. It was taken at 6:33 p.m. Mountain time.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5D, Mark iii with a 100mm. Macro lens, hand held. No other special equipment.

Inspiration

I actually wanted to catch a few photos of the irises before they bloomed out, and stopped to take a few others as well, including this photo. I just like capturing flowers and these are especially pretty.

Editing

No post processing was done on this photo.

In my camera bag

50 mm f1.4, 200mm macro f2.8, 70-200 mm f2.8 canon lenses, Tamron 24-70mm f2.8, multiple charged batteries, canon 5D, Mark iii, point and shoot for when I don't have as much time (or the pro camera isn't allowed in to where I'm going.) I also keep lots of cleaning clothes handy. OH, and don't forget extra memory. LOL

Feedback

Early morning might be easier for lighting, but for flowers, even though I tend to wait too late in the day. We have breezes here on a busy street, so the most important thing was just patience. Since the shot was done on a macro setting, I try to shoot with the highest aperture that allows me to get more of the photo in focus that I can manage given the lighting and try not to push the ISO up too high. I took this shot very late in the day which can make dodging shadows a bit more difficult and forced me to use a tad higher ISO than I prefer.
