Location
This photo is at Lincoln Cathedral, England. Specifically this is one of the arches within the ‘Exchequer Gate’. A large building which housed the administrative staff that collected rents from the population of Lincoln through the ages.Time
Mid afternoon with a clear blue sky.Lighting
With s clear blue sky and the time of day the suns angle was from behind my right shoulder. It was creating perfect contrast within the arches of the Exchequer Gate and the West Wall of the Cathedral. I liked this aspect of the composition most. The darker side of the church versus the brighter ornate west wall.Equipment
I was in street photography mode, so hand holding at hip/chest height. I was using a Fujifilm XT3 and their 33mm f1.4 prime lens.Inspiration
I had pre-visualised this shot months ago. I’d thought of capturing ecclesiastical members of the cathedral staff walking in transit with the arches but non were in the open on the day. But I was lucky it wasn’t too busy so I could focus on those that were present and add that human element. Without that human element these buildings really do lose their meaning.Editing
I tidy up some the contrast and exposure values on the iPad using affinity photo 2.In my camera bag
The Fujifilm XT3 with the XF33mm f1.4, and 3 alternative lenses: XF16mm. F2.8, XF18-55mm, XF70-300mm. I carry spare batteries, a usb charger from Belkin which charges both camera and iOS tech:iPhone & iPad.Feedback
Avoid bank holidays and weekends. It’s too busy, try evenings and weekday afternoons in summer.
