I went digging deep for this one back to December 2007. A picture of the Cathedral Basilica of St John the Baptist in Savannah, Georgia.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic cathedral and minor basilica in Lafayette Square at 222 East Harris Street, Savannah, Georgia. It is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Savannah.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist was the first building in Georgia constructed of brick.
A glorious Savannah attraction to behold, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is an architectural masterpiece. In the French-Gothic style, pointed arches and magnificent details make a breathtaking backdrop to the gorgeous Savannah skyline. It was founded in 1700 by the first French Colonists and although the original early structures were destroyed by fire, the current cathedral dates back to 1874.
Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the cathedral, enjoying the amazing Twin Spires and picturesque exterior as well as the Italian marble, Austrian stained glass, and opulent Persian rugs of the interior.
I never got to see the interior and from the photos online I really missed out. It's amazingly beautiful inside worthy of another trip just to see the inside.
I have to confess the sky in the photo that I took from my hotel window was less than inspiring. I went through my vast collection of skies that I take myself and I found one that seemed to be more fitting of a church of that caliber. I hope you like it.
