This photo was taken in my home in GA. My daughter and her family lived with me at the time and her husband was away for an extended period. She wanted to send him some nice photos of herself to keep the marriage interesting while apart. When I entered her bedroom she was attempting to take selfies. I was surprised as I have been doing photography for some time and she had not asked me to assist. I suggested she allow me to take the photos. This is a result of one of the shots I took. Both husband and daughter were happy with the final product.Time
If I remember correctly it was more towards the evening but it was still light outside. Things in the house were quite considering 3 young boys were sequestered in adjoining rooms gaming. The quite time allowed for an opportunity to take some creative photos.Lighting
The windows in the room had wooden blinds which kept the room light low so there were no issues with lighting due to glare. I did use a flash and a higher ISO at 640 to add more light. No professional lighting was used as I am not a professional. The camera was hand held using some support from objects in the room to steady the camera.Equipment
The photo was taken with Nikon D7000 using a flash. No tripod was used. The image was shot at the following: f4.5 ISO 640 50mm Exp time 1/50 secInspiration
I love photography and enjoy taking photos of people which I rarely get the opportunity to do. You would think with 3 grandchildren there would be more than enough opportunity but they refused to allow their pictures to be taken. So, when I saw the opportunity to help my daughter out I was more than happy to do it. I feel the end result was an example of a love for the art.Editing
There seems to always be some post-processing, not necessarily required, but wanted to enhance a photo or to make it more appealing. In this case the back ground I felt was more prominent than I wanted. I wanted the attention of the viewer to be drawn in to the subject. Being she was scantily clad I knew that wasn't going to be an issue. However, I felt that by blurring the background it would give the photo a softer feel and draw the viewer's eye in to the subject. I then did some minor tweaks to lighting, some skin softening and enhanced the color to make the tats pop. I think the end result speaks for itself. In my camera bag
My bag is a conversion of a carry on suitcase. I molded form to hold my lenses secure and separate compartments. My bag always holds the following: 45mm 50mm 18-105mm 70-300mm 150-600mm My most recent pride and joy Fisheye lens spare battery A number of filers rain gear for the camera and me remote Flash Tripod cleaning rags for the lensesFeedback
The main advice I can give is to know your subject. Not necessarily personally as I did but know in what positions they look best. It is said that most of us have a side that makes us a little more attractive than the other. So when dealing with portrait photos always shoot both sides to see which side has a more appealing look. Softening or darkening the background will draw your eye in to the subject and soften the shot as well. Always shoot different poses to suit your purpose and that of your subject. Change backgrounds to change the mood of the photo. Shoot and have fun with it.
