Location
Maspeth, New York.Time
Sunset around 5:30.Lighting
This is a composite shot of 3 exposures, to get the lighting and sky as I wanted.Equipment
I used my Canon 7D and 16-35mm lens. Handheld and took 3 shots 0ev, -2, +2. to merge together.Inspiration
I wanted to get a shot of the famous diner from the movie before it’s gone forever.Editing
I used Luminar Neo to develop the 3 exposures and exported as .tiff files. I then used Affinty photo to combine the 3 shots by painting in the areas I wanted to get the desired exposure effects. Back to Luminar for some final glow and dodge and burn.In my camera bag
Canon 7D, 16-35mm lens, Gary Fong lighting kit, Canon speed lite, cleaning cloth and a spare card. Tripod gets attached to strap of camera bag too.Feedback
Right before sunset is when I grabbed this shot. The sun is right at the horizon, giving the amazing colors seen. Get to your spot early and start taking photos and finding the best spot. A multi exposure shot can help get the dynamic range. Find a good forground element to tell a story in front of the sunset.
