Location
I was driving to Mt. Saint Helens in Washington to photograph the mountain when I saw this side road with some interesting light. I turned around and headed up the back road. It twisted and turned and was beautiful. So I pulled over and took some shots.Time
This was taken late morning. The sun was still behind the trees for great light.Lighting
This shot was all about great timing. The sun had to be in the right spot in the sky to come through the trees like it did. Any earlier it would be hidden and any later it would have been overhead with harsh light.Equipment
Kept it simple. I used my Nikon z7 with the 24-70mm f4. Handheld.Inspiration
This was a spur of the moment photo. Just driving by a side road and getting a peek at what was up there is what compelled me to turn around.Editing
I increased the exposure and the blacks. Upped the clarity a bit. And I cropped it to focus on this section of the road. Added a little warmth and I was done.In my camera bag
These days I have the Nikon z7ii. For lenses I mostly have primes. The 20mm 1.8, 35mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, and the 24-200 4-6.3. I also carry a Godox v1 just in case and various filters.Feedback
The only advice I have is to always keep an eye out and an open mind. This wasn’t a planned shot. It was just a place I came across. So even if you are in your way to somewhere specific with a certain shot in mind, always be looking for something more.
