Behind The Lens

Location

At my friend Octavio's annual garage party. Outside, BBQ, cars and music under ste stars

Time

obviously at night, after the second beer.

Lighting

All natural as provided by the garage light and the street lamps.

Equipment

My D800 and a Sigma 85 f1.4, it copes well with low light. The AF is a bit haphazard, so you need to correct a bit with your body

Inspiration

The atmosphere was perfect, a moonlit night, good company, plenty of beer, Tequila and meat. It was a perfect moment to capture the atmosphere. I had been watching for a while for the smoke to go in the right direction and the perfect moment and more importantly the right light.

Editing

the meat was perfect it just needed a few more beers :) Seriously, i fiddled a bit with the white balance and the sensibility in Exposure and discarded a first overcorrected version by lightroom. Left it pretty much original.

In my camera bag

A low light lens between 28 f'2 and the 85 mm used here, a 24-70 and a lovely super wide angle, both MF . Depending on the circumstances that is the IOWA 12mm or the 18mm Nikkor from the 80s. My Tamron 300 2.8 MF and my indispensable 180mm macro. A D4 or the d800

Feedback

Dive into the atmosphere and watch people, what they do, their expressions etc. Have patience and don't let go, don't take too many shots, people don't like that. A few of each person at the right moment Leave it natural.
