Venice’s Bridge of Sighs, constructed between the 16th and 17th century, connects the New Prison to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace. The Bridge of Sighs’ name is based on a legend that the prisoners crossing the bridge sighed at seeing the outside world for the last time. Actually there wasn’t much of the world to be seen from the bridge because it’s between walls of buildings. So it’s thoughts the name ‘sighs’ indicate only the last breath of the prisoners in the free world because, once convicted in the kingdom of Dogi, they would never get out.
It’s said that if a couple passes under the Bridge of Sighs their love will last forever. That’s a lot of love because when I was there, every square inch of the bridge was covered with people.

Love this Bridge thanks for sharing the information about how it got its name , modern day legend goes that if lovers kiss as the pass under the Bridge in a gondola at sunset , they'll be granted eternal love ..but then that’s the romance of Venice:-)

The detail you caught in the architecture is remarkable. The Bridge of Sighs. What a beautiful name, if you are a lover. Breath taking photo.
