Location
This photo is from the tower on Charles Bridge in PragueTime
I planned this shot weeks in advance and could only dream of having such a fantastic sunset. I only took what i needed with me on a day long walking tour of Prague knowing I would end up at this point at sunset. I had even done a search to make sure I could use a tripod on the tower. I was dismayed when the guy at the tower contradicted the research and told me I couldn't use the tripod I'd carried all day just for this shot! My coat acted as a makeshift beanbag support and I took a range of exposures using different shutter speeds until the optimum effect was achieved. Not as slow as I had expected!Lighting
The light is entirely natural, the shutter speed was the key decisionEquipment
I used a Nikon D800, with 24-70mm. I was not allowed to use my tripod (Manfrotto BeFree)Inspiration
I saw a shot from this position and just knew I had to take a shot from that position, but with a long exposure twist!Editing
Nothing excessive was done to the shot. Levels tweaked, contrast and highlights reinstated and a bit of vibrance. In my camera bag
I take what I need for each shoot I do. My usual choice will be the minimum I need to capture what I have in mind. It can be as minimal as one camera and fixed lens or as complex as EVERYTHING I have!Feedback
Have a goal in mind for your shot and plan, plan, plan! If you get other great shots as well as the one you were after, great, but nailing one awesome keeper shot is worth more to me than 50 mediocre also ran shots.
