I took this photo at home a couple of hours after the loaf had come out of the oven. It's one of my first attempts at Sourdough, so I was pretty pleased with the results and wanted to make sure I captured it before it was eaten!Time
The shot was taken in the afternoon. It was a simple set-up, I have an old wooden box with a really great textured surface. I just cut up the loaf and placed it on the wood.Lighting
The light is a studio light with a long thin soft box. I placed it really low so I could create some shape and shadow. It's a slightly hit or miss thing as the room I was shooting in is quite well lit, so could only see teh effect after I'd shot the bread. I adjusted the light until I got what I wanted.Equipment
1 Elinchrom BX400 light, A Nikon D800 with a 24-70 f2.8Inspiration
My bread! Oh and some of the bread shots I'd seen on Pinterest. I was aiming at creating bread like some of the loaves I'd seen. This was not up to that bread standard, but I did hit what I was after 'bread wise' a couple of bakes later when I'd figured out how to make the bread come out of the oven as I wanted. I now bake my bread more like the loaf in the shot though as it tastes so good it doesn't really need to look quite so picturesque!Editing
Just the usual tweaks to the levels and curves to make sure all the detail is there and a light 'sharpen'.In my camera bag
I've got a pretty standard set of kit in my bag. Nothing ultra wide or long in the lens department and I usually use my D800 for shots I've planned, like this one. Day to day, I do carry a camera almost all the time, but it is my Fuji X-Pro that gets that honour. Usually with just the one, fixed lens.Feedback
Lighting is everything for shots like this. Get teh lighting right and even a humble loaf can look delicious!
