It looks like this squirrel is worshiping the God.
But in reality...it came here for the feast.
The thread you see is wound around a Banyan tree. Indians must be knowing it very well but for others let me explain a little bit.
In Indian tradition, banyan tree holds a very important place. It is during a festival known as Vat Poornima, married women observe a fast and tie threads around a banyan tree and pray for the well-being of their husband.
They sing in the praise of the god and walk around the tree tying the threads of bond in rounds and offer fruits, flowers, sweets, coins and bangles.
After the ritual is over then these tree rats gather for their feast. :) :)

I had said in one of your other photos that they look like Chipmonks, but our Chipmonks do not have long fluffy tails...they are much shorter and not fluffy!

Love this photo--and the explanation for the string! it's all really quite beautiful for an otherwise less than extraordinary squirrel to find itself!
