Love the composition of this. The half and half white/yellow, the different size squares and rectangles with the windows and planter boxes. The textures and flat coloring. Nicely seen and captured.

Love all the various contrasts. Enjoyed reading about all the care you took in achieving this excellent composition.

Location
I took this photo wandering around the Roma Norte neighborhood in Mexico City. It has very interesting architecture.Time
This was taken in the morning when the sun was low so there was even light in the streets. it probably would not have worked in the middle of the day as the light would have been very harsh.Lighting
There is not much in the way of dynamic lighting, but the way that the windows on the right get lighter as they get higher makes for an interesting almost gradient-like effect.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D7200 and the 18-140 kit lens. It had a f3.5 aperture to get a high enough shutter speed. Because the subject was flat, the smaller depth of field was fine.Inspiration
The geometry and the color caught my eye, and the lone tree added an organic element to the scene.Editing
This did require a bit of processing. Because it was all about the geometry I wanted the lines to all be straight. I actually took it from street level, so in the original photo all the lines were going diagonally outwards. I used Lightroom's perspective correction to correct the lines and make it appear like it was taken at eye level. I also cropped it a bit so that the center line was in the middle of the frame. Lastly, I think there was a power line that cut through the frame that was totally distracting that was easy to clone out.In my camera bag
This was taken with my old Nikon. I have since moved to the Fuji system (XT3). It is a lot smaller and easier to take with me when I am hiking around. The lenses that I use are: 10-24mm: Great for landscape and street photography in tight places 16mm 1.4mm: Best for low light and landscapes 18-55mm: great walking around lens. If I am only taking one lens with me, this is usually it 55-200mm: My long lens for landscapes and distant subjects. These cover everything I need to shoot so far. Fuji has fewer third party lenses and can be a bit pricey, but I am very happy with the switch.Feedback
Spend time walking around with an open mind. I knew nothing about what I would find. If something catches your eye, it is probably for a reason, even if you can't pinpoint why at first. For a shot like this you really need to minimize distractions. The buildings on either side were very messy and distracting. I really needed to fill the frame with this building and take great care what was included and not included in the shot. because of the geometry in a shot like this your lines are also very important. One of the best ways to improve your photos when you are just starting out is to make sure that your horizons are straight and lines that are supposed to be vertical or horizontal are. Not everybody will explicitly notice it, but it will have an effect on how your photo is perceived.
