Location
I took it on the base of Mt. Emily at a very popular local trailhead.Time
This was taken mid-morning during a passing snowstorm.Lighting
It was super dark in the woods that day. I had to crank my iso up to freeze the snow. I love how the outfits of the family bounce off the screen!Equipment
My Canon 6d and Canon 70-200 2.8 lens.Inspiration
I love interacting with kids at photoshoots. I feel that they cooperate more if they are having fun. With the giant snowflakes I knew having the kids jump would be perfect!Editing
Since I shoot in raw I did a quick color correction in Lightroom, then I removed some of the snow directly on their faces in Photoshop. As well, I cropped a little and pulled more color out of the clothes. In my camera bag
I have my Canon 6d, a Canon 24-105, Canon 70-200 and my Canon 40mm lenses. I also have a flash, lens hoods, extra batteries, memory cards, and granola bars.Feedback
Just practice with your settings. For this one, you need a fast shutter speed! You want to freeze the snow and not streak it. Give good directions to your subjects (like jump on 3) so you get everyone doing what they should be doing. Mostly have fun!
