Behind The Lens

Location

Photo was taken in Ljubljana oldest skyscraper built 1933. When opened it was the biggest building in middle east part of Europe. At the top You can find coffe shop, restaurant and terrace. All is accessible with this beautiful spiral stairs made from wood. New is only modern LED lightning which create special effects.

Time

Photo was taken afternoon but in this case this is not important because it was indoor shot without influence of external lightning.

Lighting

Because stairs are quite dark it was challenge to find right camera settings. I was without tripod and photo was taken from hand so i need to combine ISO, aperture and time settings to get results i like to have.

Equipment

CameraCanon: EOS 70D Lens: Sigma 18-200mm Focal Length: 18.0 mm Shutter Speed: 1/7 sec Aperture: F5.6 ISO/Film: 1000 Original Size5472 X 3648 No flash, no tripod. Lightroom.

Inspiration

As I told in intro this is historic building in this part of Europe so I like to have documented their architectural details for further generations. Here You can find combinations of spiral stairs (this is not only one in this building), old elevators, entrance from marble and terrace with wonderful view to Ljubljana citiscape

Editing

There I made minimal corrections in exposure, contrast and WB. The biggest transformation was cropping. I cut out some parts of image to get composition which I was satisfied. All was made in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

When I go out I always take with me my camera, Canon 70D, two or three lens (Canon 24-105, Sigma 17-50 and Canon 50/1,8). External flash, remote shutter and iPhone. :) Yes, iPhone is great tool for remote shooting. You need to connect it by wi-fi to camera and you have great opportunity to adjust all settings direct on phone including with live preview. In car I have tripod which help me in many situations with low lighting.

Feedback

In architectural photography like this one try to get many different positions, angles and light settings. On PC You will see which one is the best and try to get maximum from it.
