Location
My garden in Blenheim, New ZealandTime
Guess about 8AMLighting
Slightly overcast, but when shooting outdoor in NZ wind and harsh light are the critical factors. For macro shots, the wind is a crusher.Equipment
A tripod, Nikon D800 with the 105 macro lens, which is the sharpest 35mm macro I've even used. Shutter cable. My favourite tripod head is a Manfroto MHXPRO with retractable levers and friction control. Weighs a bit for my preferred locations and situations, but the versitality and stability tradeoff is worth it.Inspiration
The juvenile stage of the opening of the blossom captured my attention. It has the promise of a large purple bloom in a week's time. New Zealand is a paradise for nature and landscape photography. Gardens are quiet, peaceful and one can go about finding compositions without distraction.Editing
Nothing really. A bit of cropping. In my camera bag
For this morning, only the camera, 105mm, tripod and flexible shade disc.Feedback
For macro, take a good number of captures at different f/ stops and choose the best later. Don't waste precious light and ideal conditions fiddling with correct exposures, etc. I prefer default Aperature setting unless moving composition I need to freeze.
