Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken during an early morning beach walk in Newport Beach California. The thick fog rendered a mysterious veil, through which the surfers emerged

Time

Early morning before the sun was able to burn through the morning fog. The sun rays were still intensifying the effect of the fog and highlighting the surfers in their wet suits

Lighting

I wanted this photo to capture the sensuality and mystery of walking on the beach covered in the wet thick fog. I wanted to capture the feeling of loneliness until the surfers broke through the sensation of seemingly being alone

Equipment

This was shot on my IPhone 6s+

Inspiration

The mysterious veil was so intriguing and created a very moody effect which I wanted to convey to the viewer

Editing

I only used slight editing in Snapseed

In my camera bag

Some mornings I carry my Olympus camera, but other mornings I walk light and carry myy IPhone in my pocket. Being able to capture unique unexpected moments is wonderful.

Feedback

Every morning and sunset on the beaches of California are different. Some mornings are engulfed in thick fog, other mornings are light and crystal clear. I highly recommend to always bring a camera or an IPhone to capture special moments. Each morning and evening are different when you keep your senses attuned to possibilities. At times it may be a single rose left on the beach, other times the reflections of the pier structure in the low tide water. Surfers emerging with their long boards are one of my favorite topics.
