The Japanese Sika deer was taken at the Woolaroc Nature Preserve outside Bartlesville, Oklahoma in early winter at dusk. A beautiful moment in time when you get that perfect light which the fading light of day can create. Yes a matter of being in the right place at the right time, but also in knowing to be out capturing or you cannot capture at all.Time
Shot at dusk during a Boy Scout campout with my grandson in middle November gave me many quality shots that weekend. If you go to the Woolaroc Nature Preserve, there are only limited times you are aloud to walk the preserve and never all of it, for some is restricted at all times. I would tell you to contact them (Woolaroc Museum and Nature Preserve) and get information if you want to visit and if you really want to truly walk with such animals as these. Elk, Bison, long horns and many other spices roam within its boundaries in a perfect habitat for native photography.Lighting
This shot of the Sika deer was a beautiful moment in time when you get that perfect light which the fading light of day can create. Yes a matter of being in the right place at the right time, but also in knowing to be out capturing or you cannot capture at all. It is funny and or ironic that this unedited picture is a winner, as I think I have gained notice as an individual that manipulates lighting and does a lot of editing.Equipment
Sony A77 with Sony 55-300mm no tripod and or flash On most occasions when nature is involved, always carry camera backpack - which is loaded with 30 lbs of equipment. Older Konica/Minolta, Tripod - monopod - zoom - wideangle - fisheye - filters - 5+batteries - flashlight and canteenInspiration
I am always inspired when in nature, cannot help to be so. Always tell people and friends, "God gave me eyes to see his sunrises and sunsets." This trek through the Woolaroc Nature Preserve was even more inspiring as the day progressed, for I had captured this day, prior to getting the Sika deer, American Buffalo, Elk, other deer. water buffalo, llamas and wild cat.Editing

My thoughts on photography, shooting similar shots? Well - first and foremost, take pictures to please thyself. Learn at least the basics of the camera you are using and have fun with it. If fun is a 25 mile hike, in one day through nature, so be it. If fun is, a capture of your son or daughter at play in the backyard. which took 2 minutes, so be it! But, if you want to take a picture of a Sika Deer like the one captured here, you have to love nature and be out in nature to do so. Patience is a virtue and you will not capture many shot like this one without it! But experience is the best teacher of all, because the first time you get a good shot in prime lighting circumstances you will never forget it and then always you will be aware and waiting for it, which then allows you to place yourself hopefully in the LIGHT of success.
