Behind The Lens

Location

I am a firm believer that you do not have to travel far to get good and or great shots and or capture great things. My green shot - the green grasshopper was shot just twelve feet out my back door on the fence that boarders our azalea garden.

Time

The shot was taken in late afternoon just after I had gotten home from my normal job and just after a late afternoon August thunderstorm. It is a time of day I try and get out after my normal job and my thoughts were to try and get those still hanging on rain drops that everyone likes these days.

Lighting

What I was able to capture in the green grasshopper shot, was some of the droplets I was hoping to get as well as a good close-up of the guy. I had watched him climb to the top of the fence he is perched on and waited hoping he would sit at it's top in the glow of a background forming around a clouded and filtered sunset. I was lucky he did just that and was amazed to find him in my lens and all the water still on him, which was probably the reason for climbing to a place in a little sun as well as a slight breeze. Seeing the green guy stop at the top, gave rise to thoughts of a good picture as well as the inspiration for the shot.

Equipment

I captures the grasshopper with my Sony A77 and a Sony 70-300mm lens and these days I use a mono-pod a lot.

Inspiration

Stated already.

Editing

I brought the image into photoshop and then back out again and then bought it back into Corel and went to some of my Topaz Labs Adjust tools for some post processing. All the clarity I wanted was already there, so I just deepened most of the tones. I am terrible, in that I shoot so much of my photography full frame and cut off things all the time, not cropping at all. This shot worked with little cropping.

In my camera bag

This day my bag of photo equipment was just 12-15 away inside the back door our house, knowing if I needed other lens they were close by.

Feedback

I don't think I can state it any clearer than, "You don't have to travel far to get great shots!" I bet most can walk out a door, any door and start to produce good photography. I cannot imagine, what all can be found standing in some grains of sand and or hanging from a light on the front porch. You just have to look down and or up and see with eyes that don't see what you can see. Have fun, let your heart soar!
