The final last rays of the wonderful day sea kayaking at Stewart Island. This lone branch has been sweeped onto the beach from southerly winds, marooned on the beach, still part of an ecosystem that sometimes we do not register as humans. Its slow decay seems trivial - but think of where it came from, as part of a tree and part of the seed, how long ago and where it has been? Often what we take for granted over looks simple beauty right in front of us daily.
