I adore the color and composition of this shot. The way the sunlight is hitting the hills is lovely. Very nice capture of a beautiful location.

Great Composition and use of sun. Sharpness award and the time to catch the fog is superb. ****

Congratulations Lynn, just saw that this magnificent shot is a finalist in the Worldscapes contest. You really earned it, well done! I immediately recognised the Tuscan landscape, your photo really does it justice with its beautiful, dreamy atmosphere.

More than a cliche picked by road and one of the wrost I've seen done there , but nice gear . The composition is forced so every one looks the same

Location
This photo was taken in the Val D'Orcia in Tuscany in early MayTime
I am useless at getting up early which can obviously give you some of the best light but I dragged myself out of bed to meet with other photographers and capture this photo. My alarm was set for about 4.30am, I had a quick shower o wake myself up and then we all headed out for this location. It was taken just as the sun was coming above the horizon at about 5.30-6.00am. I think it was worth the early morning alarm call :)Lighting
The only light used was the sun - I just had to wait for it to capture the farmhouse and produce the long shadows across the rolling hills!Equipment
I used a Canon 5D mkii with a Canon 24 - 70mm lens. I also used a tripod to ensure stability. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was attending a photography workshop with a group of other people so the location was chosen for us although the actual framing of the photo was down to us. The light was so perfect that morning with the colour in the sky and the farmhouse being directly lit by the sun it was just a case of making sure the camera was pointing in the right direction.Editing
I did a little post-processing with this image to ensure the sky wasn't washed out so I used a drop down filter in Lightroom and then a little dodge and burn to bring out the areas lit by the sun.In my camera bag
I probably carry too much equipment as you can't use it all at once but the essentials for me now are the camera body Canon 5D mk iii, a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 lens, a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 lens, a Canon 50mm f1.2 lens and some filters! There is other stuff in my bag too which help with the weather when it turns nasty - a chamois cloth and a clear plastic bag to cover the camera when it really rains :)Feedback
The location is very popular with other photographers and a version is this photo can be found all over the internet. My advice is to get to the location early (when it is still dark) and get set up. Hopefully you will be in location before other photographers and get the best spot. Late April / early May is the best time as this will hopefully give you the right conditions for a bit of mist lying in the hills and give the photo a bit of a mysterious feeling. Being ready for the sunrise is crucial as this gives the warming colour effect to the photo (golden hour).
