Wonderful Job on a technically difficult capture. Amazing depth, exposure, and detail. The grains of sand really puts it over the top! It's no wonder that it's a finalist!

Location
This photo was taken in Praia Vermelha ( Red Beach) , located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.Time
I left home around 5am ….This photograph was taken at about 6:15 am . Soon after the sunrise.Lighting
I had seen many pictures of this beach during the sunrise, but never one with the sun already high. The sun's reflection causes a magical color in the beach sands . I wanted to capture a long exposure , without losing the magic of sunlight.Equipment
In this case I just used a Canon 5D MK III , with lens Canon 16-35mm USM II F2.8 + Manfrotto Tripod , and filter ND Cokin + Black card in the sky .Inspiration
I am a great admirer of landscape photography. A traveler seeking new landscapes, even in places already very photographed. I've never seen a picture of this beach to show a long exposure with the sun already high . My biggest inspiration was trying to show a common place , photographed by many photographers , in a new and unique way.Editing
Small correction on the horizon, as my tripod sank a bit in the sand after a few tests. In my camera bag
I already had and tested several different devices from different brands . Today , I carry with me in my backpack , a Canon 5D MK III with Canon lenses , 8-15mm f4 , f2.8 16-35mm , 24-70mm USM II 2.8 and a 70-200mm USM II 2.8. Depending on the place , ND filters , tripod and whatever it takes to place.Feedback
Get up early , very early … You have to know the time and exact position where the sun will rise. Being in this place before, so get compose the image the way you planned. In a situation like this , with the sun already high, one must have some sort of filter gradual ND.
