Location
This photo was taken in Highlands North Carolina at a residential park.Time
This was taken in the early morning, around 2-3 AM.Lighting
It's all ambient lighting from the surrounding houses, and street lights.Equipment
I used a Fujifilm X-T1 with the 18-135 3.5-5.6 lens. As well as Ravelli Tripod.Inspiration
I'm always looking for unusual settings, and lighting. This scene spoke to me because of the way the light was playing on the fog. How still the pond was, even as it was so dark I could still see some reflections in the water. I always loved the duality of mirrors, and reflections in photos.Editing
I cleaned up a bit of noise in post, brightened the photo a bit, and altered the contrast all in Lightroom. I tend to take multiple shots of a scene to dial in my settings, especially white balance so later in post I don't have to fight with it to find a perfect balance of whites. In my camera bag
I keep my X-T1 with the 18-135 lens. A few lights just in case, a simple flash, extra batteries, a camera strap, and a lens cloth. I enjoy working from a minimalist standpoint, it helps you see around problems to capture the image.Feedback
Patience. Natural phenomena like fog, or rainstorms work on their clock, not ours. We have to envision what it is we want to capture, and then allow the natural world to impose its will. Working around the challenges it presents us, and try to capture the beauty it unveils. So if I were to have any real advice, Patience, Luck, and finding the right balance.
