This was taken in my backyard. It was the beginning of Fall, the last of the Coneflowers were out and mixing with beautifully with Goldenrod and a few of the first falling leaves. It was a perfect symphony of color and light.Time
It was late afternoon, and my dogs were enjoying the cooler weather in their favorite spot in the yard.Lighting
It was close to dusk, and the light was flat and even, but also that time of year where the light changes so quickly. I had to bump up my ISO and I was worried about that as I was using my first entry level DSLR (Sony a55) But it held up well with not much noise.Equipment
This was shot with my first DSLR, a Sony a55. I've since upgraded to a Canon 6d, but oh I LOVED that camera...I learned to shoot manual on it, and it never let me down. It just goes to show you that expensive equipment isn't everything...Inspiration
This is my Leonberger Mr. Bigs, and Fall is always such a welcome relief for him, (and my other two) with cooler air, and crisp days. He was out enjoying the late afternoon breeze and I thought why not throw a hoodie on him and really get in the spirit of the season, and when I did he gave me the happiest smile ever! Like "ahhhhhhhhhh thats right its FINALLY sweatshirt season!" Best boy ever!Editing
I start in LR with basic adjustments, adjusting highlights and shadows, a bit of clarity, sharpening etc, from there I move into PS for more detailed editing. A little D&B, some work on his eye etc, and I used a fall leaves overlay on this just to add a bit of falling leaves that I couldn't get naturally, and finally High Pass to bring out his gorgeous fur.In my camera bag
I've since upgraded to a Canon 6d, which I LOVE! I normally have the 24-70 2.8 on it, but also own a 50 1.4 and a 70-210 that was given to me by a dear friend.Feedback
I've found that dogs are really tough to photograph, and it takes a lot of patience, but this was a super lucky shot. I just somehow managed to click the shutter at the exact moment he gave me that gorgeous smile. I had my camera settings right before I even thought about trying to get this shot, I knew I had to be quick, because of the rapidly changing light, and his willingness to keep the hoodie on for a minute. This is by far one of my most favorite shots ever!
