Location
I take a lot of photo here at Leslie Dam Warwick QLD Australia, as it's only 5 minute drive from home. i take my dogs here every day for their exercise and a swim and as a amateur photographer i try to take photo's every day to improve my skills and there is always something to shoot out there whether it's a sunset or wildlife.Time
This shot was late in the afternoon i never aimed to capture my dog Tiger in the shot, i was out to capture the sunset with the rocks in the foreground and as i got set to snap the shot he jumped up on the rock and just sat there like a pro model. Any time i try to take a photo of my dogs they always move or turn their heads away, so i could not believe my luck when he just sat there looking at me.Lighting
With the help of the clouds the late afternoon light as the sun disappears behind the low mountain range it can paint the sky some amazing colours which normally reflect a softer colour on the surface of the water along with the longer exposures used to capture these shotsEquipment
Canon 600D with a Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 lens fitted with a polarizing filter mounted to tripod.Inspiration
When i see the cloud cover i get excited about what is to follow as the sun goes down there is always something special about a sunset or sunrise over water and with the clouds you can get a little colour or very dramatic colours, but it's always a mystery till it happens.Editing
i always shoot in RAW and i normally do minor adjustments in Corel Aftershot pro 2 before saving as a JPEG, then i with resize and watermark it in Corel Paint shop pro.In my camera bag
As an Amateur Photographer, i don't have a lot of gear and it all fits into a back pack so i take it all. I have Canon 600D fitted with a battery grip, the 2 kit lenses that came with it, a sigma 10-20mm f3.5 lens, Tamron 90mm macro, Y460 speed light, macro ring flash, filters, cleaning gear, batteries, Vintage light meter and a combination tripod monopod.Feedback
What i have learnt since starting photography is to give your self enough time to scout out your location and set up. be prepared to stay a while right into dark as you will be surprised how the sky colour can change in a moment, i had seen some awesome coloured sky's in the rear view mirror as i was leaving because i though that there was going to be nothing else worth taking how wrong was i. With cloud cover you can get two or three separate periods that will paint the sky.
