Location
The photo was taken at Leslie Dam Warwick Queensland Australia. I am a self taught photographer and on a disability pension so i am very limited to where i can take photo's. i can only walk a couple of hundred meters so i need to be able to have car access. i take most of my photo's here as i take my 2 dogs there to run around and have a swim so i kill 2 birds with the 1 stone so to speak.Time
i normally head to the dam about 2 hours before sunset and stay to dark trying different things like long exposure, different angles etc.Lighting
i start shooting into the sun to get sun burst but it is not till the sun disappears behind the hills that the magic happens. You never know what mother nature has in store, if the cloud dose not go to far to the west you will get the amazing light show of reds, yellows and orange along with the reflections off the water it's a perfect end to the day.Equipment
I always my Vanguard tripod, Canon 600D Camera, Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 Lens, Big Stopper ND Filter (10 stops of light). i use the mirror lock up and the 2sec timerInspiration
The dam was at 15% capacity exposing all the granite boulders that would be normally under 30 to 40 feet of water at capacity so i wanted to make the most of them before the became covered again. the dam is now at 30% and these boulder in this image are back under water.Editing
i shoot in RAW and most of the tweaks are done in my DXO optics pro 10 program then i will put it into my Corel program to add a water mark and to resize, with this image i did not do too much i had to straighten the horizon a little as it wasn't quite right and put it through clear view and vibrancy that's all.In my camera bag
i have a hard case that holds all my gear in the back of the car and in the is..Canon 600D with battery grip, Sigma 10-20mm, Sigma 50mm Art f1.4,Sigma24-105mm Art f4.0, Sigma 150-600mm C, Tamron 90mm Macro, ND Filters, 10,6,2 and Graduated Stops, Polarizing filters,Cleaning gear, Flash gun, spare batteries, reducing rings.Feedback
Don't be scared to try different things this image was shot low to the ground with the camera tilted up and very close to the subject.
