I came up with this idea in the middle of the night and right after my kids went off to school I went outside in the cold and took all the elements I needed for this image. This is about balancing the life of a photographer and as a Mom and wife, it's tricky sometimes, but so important to do!

I photographed this in my back yard, I had this image pop into my head in the middle of the night and it was one of those images that you just have to photograph as soon as you can.Time
I remember waking up thinking ok, I need to photograph this image. It was in the middle of the week so I was getting my two boys ready for school. It was just after 8 am when I got back from the bus stop and I walked into my studio, changed into the gown, grabbed my camera and tripod and walked into the backyard. It was about -10 C outside and there was still snow on the ground, so I quickly set up everything and took many images that I would use to create this one. It was so cold and I just hoped I got what I needed which I did! =)Lighting
It is all natural light, I was lucky enough that the light was pretty even everywhere.Equipment
I used my Canon 6D with a 24-105mm 4f/L lens, a canon remote and a Oben CT-3581 Carbon Fiber TripodInspiration
My life inspired this image. I am a wife and mother of two young very active boys, and I am also a Fine Art Photographer and all of that is a handful. This image was my way of showing balance in life, everyone needs to have a good balance between work and family and I am still trying to find my perfect balance.Editing
This is a conceptual image, I combined many different images together as well as my hand toning, colouring, dodging and burning, painting etc to get the look and feel that I wanted for this image. I wasn't actually balancing on my fence, and there was no wind so I had to flick the dress as well as my hair and combine all those images as well.In my camera bag
I have my Canon 6D, a 50 mm 1.4 lens, 24-105 mm 4.0 lens, 85 mm 1.8 lens, canon remote, card wallet, lenspen, neutral density filters and of course my Oben tripod. That is my main bag, I have a large bag that holds all my other equipment as well.Feedback
Most importantly go out and have fun. This is one of many self-portraits I have done and the first few it was really hard to get in front of that camera, now it's much easier. Sketch or write out ideas when they come to you, I carry around a small sketch book so when an idea comes to me I won't forget it. Take enough photos at the time so that you don't have to go back and take more if you forgot something. It has taken lots learning to edit like I do on photoshop, workshops are a great thing =)
