Location
New Orleans, Louisiana on the famous Bourbon Street.Time
Early morning, after the street cleaners had been by. The city was just waking up and I was enjoying the empty streets as it let me really see the bones of the city.Lighting
I walked around this puddle twice trying to capture the perfect angle, must have looked crazy to those around me. But I've found with puddle are that it's often good to get the lighting from an angle, gives more depth and illuminates better what you want to show. Plus you're working with natural lighting so making sure your shadow isn't in the way is always a good call.Equipment
This was shot on my old iPhone 5S.Inspiration
I love puddle art, it's like a window into another world. New Orleans was so beautiful, this old world city plopped deep in the south and I wanted to capture both its grit and its incredible age and beauty. How better to do that then to get low, show the depth, the layers, the colors, the old world charm of cobble stoned streets, and new world conveniences of street cleaning.Editing
I edits this photo on Instagram, heightened the saturation, highlights, and played with the lighting to make it a little darker. In my camera bag
I always have my phone on me, it's really the only equipment I need.Feedback
Look down! There is so much to see beneath your feet. Cities are great places to find puddle art, early mornings or just after it rains are usually the best times. Look for dark surfaces, and bigger, deeper puddles for the best most crisp images.
