Location
I took this photo in the small Idaho town, Sandpoint, located about 60 miles south of the Canadian border. It's population is about 6000, many there to enjoy the incredible winter and summer sporting opportunities.Time
This was about 2 p.m. in November.Lighting
This is just natural lighting in a rather dark alleyway.Equipment
I used a Sony Nex-6 with a 17-55mm lens. That's it, nothing else.Inspiration
The model is my son. He and I were wandering around town and came upon the alley with the rain puddles. The walls are painted on both sides with quite striking drawings. The puddles were just a huge plus for the photo ops. In fact, I did not see the reflection in the puddle until I had the image on my computer. What strikes me about this alley is the big city, urban vibe that it has despite being in a small ski town in Idaho. That's strange.Editing
The only post-processing was use of shadows, contrast, and sharpening sliders on iphoto. My camera has an in-camera HDR which I used here.In my camera bag
I carry a Sony-Nex6 and four lenses: a 17-55mm, 50-200mm, 14mm and fish-eye. I also carry two extra batteries and 1 extra memory card. I carry a tripod and bean bag but rarely use either one. Most of my photography is sort of taken "on the run" and I almost never set up shots.Feedback
I came upon this alley by wandering around this small town. I am optimistic that every little town as the unseen, undiscovered little spots that will make a great photo. Exploring and not just sticking to the town landmarks is the key here I think.
