Love that flair. The shot takes me back!

Behind The Lens

Location

In Santiago, Chile, from the top of San Cristóbal Hill. It's the second highest point in the city, measuring 880 m in altitude, and about 300 m above the rest of Santiago.

Time

19:11pm, during the golden hour.

Lighting

I loved the fact that the sun was practically facing the camera, so that I would have lens flare adding forms and direction to the composition.

Equipment

A Nikon D90 camera, using the provided 18-105 zoom lenses. For this image I chose 80mm as the focal length. No tripod, no flash unit, just the ambient lighting captured in a 200 Iso and a set of 1/250 and f16 stop.

Inspiration

I loved the resulting misty and monochromatic effect of the scene, thanks to the fog over the city and the fact that the picture was captured during the golden hour. Santiago looked so small as the big hills surround the city and seems to arrest it on it's own foggy atmosphere.

Editing

I always shoot in raw, so post-processing is a need. For this image, I used HDR to get more contrast and details, plus a small add of yellow color.

In my camera bag

The whole setup is a Nikon D90 camera with it's 18-105mm lens, and also a wide 10-24mm lens and a 75-200mm lens. I rarely carry a flash unit but I do love tripods and always try to keep at least a very small unit in my bag.

Feedback

Just be at the scene with your heart and feel free to shoot what makes difference to you. I confess that I never thought that this picture would call a particular attention and this fact made me hesitate to upload it in VB. And here it is.
