Photo I captured of a Black Crowned Night Heron- These birds are misnamed, since their stripes are really dark blue, but they are particularly beautiful, and not that common on the west coast of the U.S., so I was lucky to capture this memorable image of a species that is threatened like so many others by the effects of climate change, which our current president still regards as a scientific hoax. In the foreseeable future, photos may be the only evidence we have of these magnificent birds.
