Location
It was taken in a residential neighborhood in Los Angeles, CA.Time
It was taken a little after sunrise.Lighting
This beautiful house is in an area where I occasionally go for wildlife photography. I noticed the house early on but the light was “just not right.” I went back to it every time I was in the neighborhood. After many trips, I finally got a slightly overcast spring-morning light that I liked. Coupled with the blooming flowers, this is the result.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 7D Mark II with an 100-400 Canon L II lens.Inspiration
I like the color contrast between the house exterior, the wall, and the gate. Spring time brought in the blooms for a splash of colors. I also like the contrasting geometric shapes of the window and the gate.Editing
Just a little this and that in a raw file processing program. In my camera bag
For wildlife, I use the 7D Mark II and the 100-400 lens; for everything else, I take a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with a 24-105 and either a 16-35 or 70-200. I travel light - Canon EOS M.Feedback
To me, for exterior building shots, light comes first. Don’t be satisfied until the light is exactly what you had in mind. When you see a good subject, study the light opportunities - weather, time of the day, and time of the year. Come back repeatedly until you got what you wanted. Enjoy.
