Because of COVID-19 and not really wanting to travel I have been photographing at home. This image was set up and photographed in my garage.Time
Looking at the metadata it looks like this image was taken at 12:41. With an image like this, taken in the garage with artificial lights it really doesn't matter what time of day you take the image, high noon is the same as the golden hour.Lighting
You want to light up brightly colors under the pan of water and oil so two small light sources were placed on each side of some colored paper on the floor of the garage.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D Mark II with a 100 mm macro lens on a tripod. Two small lights to light up the paper under the setup. I made a stand to hold my glass dish out of pvc pipes.Inspiration
With COVID-19 I have been shooting at home and trying new techniques like this oil and dish soap in water.Editing
No post-processing.In my camera bag
Canon cameras and a variety of lenses. I almost always use a tripod when shooting set-up and table tops.Feedback
Use the search box in ViewBug for creative images and when you see an image that strikes you then Google the internet to see how that type of image was created. You can get a lot of ideas this way but you don't want to copy exactly what someone else has done, not that you can in many cases such as this water, oil and dish soap image.
