Brilliant shot! But Global Warming! One third of the most iconic glaciers( Yellowstone, Pyrenees, Kilimandjaro...will disappear by 2050. Don't count on stupid Clowns: Trump, Putin, Bolsonaro, Kim Jong-Un... to save our beautiful Planet.

Behind The Lens

Location

There is a small beach, near Svolvaer on Lofoten, called Rørvika.

Time

The photo is made at sunset. Unfortunatly the sun did not show at that day, but the clouds did produce a nice even light without shadows.

Lighting

The image is with existing light, and I used a polariser, soft gradient neutral density filter and a ten stops neutral density filter to acquire a longer exposure. I used manual control to set exposure and a custom white balance to get rid of filter color cast. Exif is f/16, ISO100 and 6 seconds exposure

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS 5D mark IV with the EF16-35mm f/2,8L III on a Gitzo tripod. Focal distance was 29mm

Inspiration

I was looking at shapes and lines in the landscapes of Lofoten. When I saw this stream covered in ice I new there was a change of finding some amazing compositions.

Editing

Post processing consists of optimizing the white balance, and contrast. Then I did some dodge and burn to accentuate the forms of ice. A little sharpening was the last thing I did. By using ND and ND graident filters I had the exposure nailed on site.

In my camera bag

For this trip I took a 16-35mm, a 24-70mm and a 100-400mm lens, together with a dSLR. I had bad weather in mind, leaving my fixed focus tilt-shift lenses at home. And of course a sturdy tripod.

Feedback

Try to disconnect from the landscape you are photographing and try to see lines and shapes. Find a subject, rather than trying to capture as wide as possible and stay with the subject. Search for balance in the picture. Also try to get the exposure as good as possible. Use gradient neutral density filters to compensate contrast differences and use exposure to the right, but not as much as possible. Although you need to disconnect from the landscape, you definitely must enjoy the scenery.
