Location
This photo was taken in my hometown of Columbus, Indiana at the Cummins Headquarters.Time
I had scouted the location over a course of few nights waiting for the Super Moon that night. This photography was taken November 13, 2016 at 9:20 pmLighting
I shot this image as a long exposure HDR to keep the highlight details while trying not to create too much noise in the shadows. The mixture of the building interior lights along with the bright moonlight created an interesting mixture of natural and man-made light.Equipment
I used a Canon 5d Mark III body with a Canon 17-35mm 2.8 lens on a Manfrotto tripod and a cable release.Inspiration
For the past several years, I have been working on a body of art that endeavors to find and capture the dynamic nature of light in darkness. These photographs are my observations of the nighttime and have become my escape from the trivialities of the day. They are studies of how time can manipulate the light captured and the way it alters one’s perception of these environments.Editing
This image was a combination of a long exposure hdr and composite. I created an hdr of the foreground and sky and then merged a shot of the Supermoon that I had captured that same night with the hdr image to create the final image. In my camera bag
I usually have my Pelican 1510 case filled with gear. Two Canon 5d Mark III bodies along with two Canon 600 EX-RT Flashes, and one Canon ST E3 RT wireless transmitter. A variety of lens combinations but mostly my Canon 70-200mm 2.8, Canon 17-35mm 2.8, Canon 24-70mm 2.8. Lastly, I have spare batteries and memory cards with me at all times.Feedback
When shooting nighttime photos I recommend using a sturdy tripod along with some type of cable release. Always try to keep your ISO as low as you can to keep the noise levels down as much as possible.
