A little bit of luck-blessings mixed with a lot of preparation helped me get this amazing image from this mornings Supermoon. The moon was at it's largest in 70 years at the exact moment I got this shot!! What a great way to document the moment. Originally I was trying to get the moon going between the rocks of Cathedral rock, Sedona, AZ. However, the Night time photography app was off just a little bit, and instead I was treated to over an hour of the Moon descending on an arc along the side of a ridge in Sedona. It worked out way better than I could have planned.

Can I ask what program to you use for post processing? This is just an awesome shot. Sedona is a wonderful place to do photography at night. You don't have to fight the city lights. It is awful where I live in Calif....
to fight the bright city lights. I hope to go back next year.

Thanks for the comment, mcampi. I use Lightroom and Photoshop. I didn't have to edit this shot much as I was using a 1200 mm set up! I'm glad you like it!

Thank you very much for your nice comment, Mihrt. One of my favorite pictures. I just hung this in my own house in a dark hallway close to the ceiling with one light on it. It looks really cool and reminds me of the moment every time I walk down the hall!

My question is how do you manage to be in such a right place at such a right time?! Are there schedules or tables!? Beautiful work. I think the glow on the bush on the vertical edge of the cliff adds depth.

Hi Critique! Thanks for the comment. As far as the timing, I use an app called PhotoPills for astrophotography. It has a night sky calculator that will show you exactly where the sun/moon/milky way will be at antime through the year! I also use the website Time and Date to holistically plan out sunrises, moonrises etc. there is lots of info out there on the web if you dig a little. Have a great day!

Wow love this, it's great how you captured this picture! Trees, edge of the cliff and the details of the moon.
Gorgeous photo!
I too enjoy capturing photos of the moon.

Fantastic shot. Much respect to you for such art and not relying on photo editing to create false images like so many resort to. Also appreciate the added information on moon and milky way location finding provided to critique. Only hope to one day find myself in similar situation.

This is stunning! I so love taking photos of the moon! I even went out late at night to a lookout platform on a large hill to try and capture the supermoon during this time. Unfortunately I picked the night of the earthquake ( Kikoura, New Zealand) so before I could get any decent shots, the earth shook quite badly and I was too frightened to take anymore! I did manage to get some reasonable shots of the latest supermoon earlier on in this month.
