Behind The Lens

Location

There is a bridge by the Pueblo Reservoir that I love to do photos at, this particular day was no different. As I am an amateur photographer I try to get out as often as I can and practice. I had been across the bridge working on reflections in the river when the rain started falling. I decided it was time to get back to my vehicle and get my gear protected. As I crossed the bridge I noticed the storm clouds rolling over the bridge and I couldn't resist pausing for one last shot. It turned out to be my favorite of the day!

Time

One of my favorite days out with my camera, nothing else to do and no one to answer to that day. This was taken in Dec 2015, around the end of the day, probably about 4:30 pm.

Lighting

Outside natural light only.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D7000 with the 18-135 lens, just me and my camera that day.

Inspiration

I spend a lot of time in this area taking photos and honing my skills. This particular photo was one of those right place and time moments, The storm clouds rising over the bridge, the beauty and strength of the wind and clouds were to amazing to resist.

Editing

I shoot in RAW so yes some post processing with light room, but I am not a fan of over processing, so minor changes to clarity and some sharpening.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7000, nikkor 35mm, nikkor 18-135, Nikon 70-300 and a wide angle. I also carry along a tripod, lens cleaners, a pack of gum and a water bottle.

Feedback

As an amateur I still feel I have so much to learn, I would say find time to get out with your camera often different times of the day, learn your setting and always shoot in raw. As far a taking one like I did...well I was just blessed to be in the right time right place but you cant get that lucky if you don't get out. I would also say do one of the photography challenges get out of your comfort zone and take photos of things you don't normally do. Love and live what you enjoy and it will show in your work!
