Loving this photo, the lighting and colouring really brings out the detail in the dogs face. Well done.

Location
This photo was taken in my living room, I had a home studio when this picture was taken but this particular dog didn't like my studio and wanted to lay on my living room floor. And I just went with it. He was relaxed and looked gorgeous so we tried the hat for a laugh and he didn't care. He was a 11stone Mastif called Rino who just loved cuddles.Time
This was taken in the early eveningLighting
This was a really simple 45 degree light setup with a soft box.Equipment
This was shot on a Pentax K200D with a 18-55mm lens, no other equipment and no tripod as I had to lie on the floor face-to-face with him.Inspiration
I always like to take photos of Animals that shows a bit of personality, and this Wee guy was just a big docile laid back old man, I thought the hat helped add emphasis to this.Editing
Not too much post processing, the image was converted to B/W I use some filter presets one of which adds a light sepia tone, rather than too brown a tone . Aside from that just some level adjustments and contrast. In my camera bag
I like to pack light, my bag usually consists of a Pentax K5, a prime 50mm which is a 40 year old Asahi lens and I swear by it, a 50-200mm Pentax DA zoom, a 28mm prime and the 18-55 kit lens for snaps. A few spare batteries, a couple of filters, usually my ND Variable, and a speedlight.Feedback
Don't be afraid to be creative with portraits of Animals, ask questions about the pets personality and try to show that in your photo. And always have some pet safe treats handy. ????
