Location
The spinning fire was taken in the ruins of Sutro Baths in San Francisco. The Baths had burned down years earlier and the remaining structures are an interesting location.Time
After sunset when it was dark.Lighting
The light came from the burning steel wool.Equipment
Sony A77 with an old zoom lens. And a tripod. The tripod was critical for this. No flash.Inspiration
This was a workshop on burning steel wool and sparks. I went there planning to get this picture.Editing
Image was post processed to bring out the light trails without over exposing. If you over expose too much the color goes away. The stars in the back ground were taken earlier and added as a backdrop. In my camera bag
I normally just take what I need for the shoot. As in this case I had to carry everything for a while and a tripod I took very little besides the camera and tripod.Feedback
Plan ahead. Look over what other people have done. Be very careful in walking in ruins in the dark.
