Location
The photo was taken at Crichope Linn in Southern Scotland.Time
The location of the photo is a fair distance from where I live. I aimed to get there well before noon and and the photo was taken shortly after 10am.Lighting
The lighting was extremely challenging due to the nature of the gorge with it's steep sides and overhanging tree cover. The weather was overcast for the most part.Equipment
The photo was taken with a Nikon D90, manual, 2.5 second exposure, 18.0-55.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, no flash was used.Inspiration
I had always wanted to capture the scene with a long exposure to smooth out the water of the Linn.Editing
I used Adobe Photoshop CC camera raw to adjust the depth of the shadows and bring out the details from the moss and sandstone rocks. In my camera bag
I take my Nikon D90 and D7100, spare batteries, Tokina 11-16mm, Nikon 50mm, Nikon 18-55mm, Sandisk Extreme Pro SDHC x 2 plus spares, Lee Big Stopper and spare DK5 covers for viewfinder.Feedback
Go back to the same location and try different settings, angles, exposures etc. I had originally tried this scene with a wider angle lens and far longer exposures but eventually got the photo with the kit lens which came with my D90.
