Location
The photo was taken at the Western end of Megget Reservoir in the Scottish Borders at the sheepfold on the shore. The view is looks to the South-East, beyond the sheepfold to Winterhopeburn which sits between the hills of Craigdilly on the left and Dead for Cauld hill on the right.Time
The photo was taken just before noonLighting
The light was changing continuously with broken cloud cover at times allowing the sun through in places which brought out the detail in the clouds mirroring the wilderness of the landscape below.Equipment
The scene was captured using a Nikon D7100 with a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro Lens. In this instance I did not use a tripod.Inspiration
I had passed by the sheepfold a number of times and had tried capturing the scene from a number of different angles but had noticed the centre of the sheepfold led the eye to the valley beyond the reservoirEditing
I completed post-processing using Adobe Photoshop CC. I converted the image using Camera Raw Filter to grayscale and worked with the exposure and contrast sliders to get to the end result. In my camera bag
I carry my gear in a hip pack which allows quick access to everything I need. The bag contains my Nikon D7100, okina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro Lens, Nikkor 18.55mm Nikkor 50mm prime lens, lens cloth, 2 spare batteries, 2 Sandisk 16GB SD-HC cards, Lee Big Stopper 100mm and foundation kit with 52mm and 77mm adapters, Jessops TP-320 tripod.Feedback
The location of this photo provides plenty of opportunities for capturing dramatic landscapes and is worth returning to over the changing seasons of the year. I find going back to a location previously visited and trying different camera settings, ditching the tripod to try new angles sometimes pays off.
