Location
This was taken at Farnborough Air show in July 2010Time
It was around midday and the show was in full flow.Lighting
The light was changing all the time as the rain clouds kept coming over head, then bright sunshine again. So my settings on the camera were never the same from one minute to the next.Equipment
I used a Nikon D700 with a 70 - 200mm lens. ISO was 200, lens at f14 and exposure 1/250. The camera was hand held as the shutter speed was quite fast. I didn't know what was coming next or from where, so having a tripod or monopod would of hinder the speed at which i could work.Inspiration
I watched air shows from home when i was a child, as Barton Air show was close to my home. I always watched the Red Arrows in awe of how they flew together. so to capture the Red Arrows in formation with the smoke trails was one of the shots i was looking to get this day.Editing
I did very little post processing with this image, just added a little contrast to bring the smoke trails out from the cloudsIn my camera bag
Nikon D700, speed light, 24mm lens, 50mm lens, 24 - 70mm lens, 70 - 200mm lens and ND grad filters.Feedback
The Red Arrows do set patterns that they practice over Cyprus for the displays. Next time i would get to know more about the routines so i knew what was coming next and be ready for the shots i wanted instead of relying on luck :)
