What is harder? The work of the climber or the photographer. Well done.

Location
This photo was taken the the Rockies in Canada. Was out playing in ice with friends and we had two Japanese climbers on the same route and I got this shot when we caught up to them.Time
This was midday. One of those clear cold days and just perfect to be out on the ice.Lighting
You are stuck with the light that you have when you are in situations like this.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon G2 - which was my first digital camera. At that stage DSLR's out of the price range of most folks and the debate of digital vs film was still raging. This unfortunately is not the original image. Lesson to self - have a better back up system.Inspiration
Climbing was one of my passions and I always carried a camera with me. Most of my climbing what shot with slides and my favourite camera for that was the Olympus XA which was a superb little camera and one that was easy to use for that kind of sport. SLR's were not really an option for serious climbing.Editing
Yes, that was done a long time back early versions of photoshop. I cannot remember what I did to this image and was new to both digital photography as well as photoshop. Totally new learning curve. In my camera bag
For climbing I only had the Olympus XA. When you are on the sharp end of the rope carrying a SLR was not a good option. The photography was pretty secondary to the climbing. On bigger routes even more so. On smaller routes you could take the time to set up for shots and use SLR. Most of the climbers I knew at that stage were not professional photographers and one friend that did work as a journalist and was a climber used to shoot on the Nikon FM2's. His work was fantastic.Feedback
Today we have a lot more options open to us and I would probably use one of the Hero 4 attached to my helmet if doing this stuff now. I would also use a small point and shoot that with a manual over ride on it. You need some thing that you can use with one hand in most situations. With a manual function for the camera it gives you the option to be more creative when you can. The reason the Olympus AX was such a good camera was that it would easily be put into a top pocket within easy reach, it has a superb lens on it (fixed 35mm) and had a manual focus as well.
