One of those pesky Kea at the summit of Avalanche Peak. The mountain gets it's name because the sheer cliff drops either side of the ridge climb to the summit. By the time winter rolls around, the snow falls on the ridge and surrounding faces and causes multiple avalanches. In the background of the image, the Crow Glacier can be seen just protruding underneath the clouds.

For those of us with fear of heights thanks for making the climb so we can see the view! Great shot and story.

Now this is a rare bird and it takes quite good climbing skills to reach it. The Kea, Nestor nobilis is the only apline parrot of planet earth ... Pesky ... well intelligent and curious it is and these aspects are vital for its survival in such harsh alpine heights ... it is known for its ability to solve logical puzzles such as pulling and pushing things in a certain order to get food and work together to achieve a certain objective... once pursued by the local sheep farming community for attacking sheeps, it is protected since 1986. You took quite a lot of will and risk to climb to such alpine heights, but its well worth it as you took this excellent photo that you now share with us. Thanks. Well done.

Climb up really high. You get a great vantage point for some great landscape and scenic shots.
