Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo during a festival in our Herrenhausen Gardens, called the "Small Festival in the Great Garden", which takes place over several days and offers a wide range of artistic displays.

Time

It was almost in the early evening, the light became softer and the artists enjoyed their play in the warm sun among lots of friendly, happy and relaxed people. The audience was very quiet.....it was a peaceful moment with woderful music in the air.

Lighting

I used natural lights only, so I used a bit higher ISO (about 640) to come to a shutter speed of 1/250 - I wanted to "freeze" the movement as good as possible.

Equipment

Nikon D7200 plus Sigma 18-250mm lens. No flash, freehand

Inspiration

I loved the atmosphere, the light, the music - but most of all I was fascinated by the mood. The mood I found in the face of this musician who dived in his music, who seemed to feel his music deep within his soul. You could really feel the love for the music - I had to try to keep this wonderful moment of love, soul and music and put it into a picture. I hope, I approximately reached this aim.

Editing

I switched the picture into black&white, did a bit on contrast - that's all.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D7200, Sigma 18-250 (as every day lens) or eventually some other lenses, depending on what I want to shoot. Then a tripot (if necessary), an infrared remote, batteries and an antistatic microfibre cloth.

Feedback

Don't think too much. Feel. Feel the moment, let it flow.....pictures like these are the result of catching the right moment. Stay patient, take a series of photos. Choose the warm light of a late afternoon, it will dive your picture in a wonderful light. Try different angles. When you take photos of people, you should take a lot of photos to choose the right one at home. If you're one of the lucky photographers, you will do all of this out of an instinct - and a lot of tries and errors.
